We are living in a fast-changing world. The number of UN members has more than doubled. Most of the new members are newly-independent countries. Most of the new members are newly-independent countries. This fact mirrors an important feature of our epoch-the rise of the national-liberation movement and collapse of the old colonial empires. Today only 1.5 per cent of the world's population live in colonial or dependent countries. The break-up of the colonial regimes is nearing completion. Empires...

Every long weekend, Christmas, Easter or any other Hallmark holiday that got us a paid day off work a group of us would go on a surf trip to Wye River. The group would vary in size from six to twenty over the duration of the stay. Wye River is 15 kilometers past Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria Australia.

Maine's forests are vast and beautiful, supporting human and non-human communities alike. Yet, their story is one of corporate colonization and ongoing oppression. This reader is meant to shed light on some of the forces at work in the Maine Woods and the effects they have on the state, and to inspire a desire to fight and protect our forests and their inhabitants from the powers that be.

A journal of theory and strategy.
Topics: Philosophy, Social Movement Theory, Political Science, Lawrence, Kansas
The ideas presented in the following essay are not all-encompassing, but are intended as a starting point from which to move the principles of anarchism, and particularly anarchist-communism, out of the theoretical realm and into the reality today of the working-class struggle against the exploitative system of capitalism and the State that defends it. Much of what I've included herein is not original but needs to be expounded upon within a revolutionary anarchist perspective.

These writings and comics come from two excellent books, Endgame, by Derrick Jenson, and As the World Burns, also written by Jenson and illustrated by Stephanie McMillan. They are printed with the goal of furthering discussions about when violence is and is not a reasonable response to the destruction of the natural world.

What inspired me to do this zine the most would have to be Las Vegas. The scene here sucks. It's so unorganized that the average scenester like myself can't bear to just sit back and watch. So I did this because I think the thing that lacks most in Vegas is zines. I seriously haven't seen a decent local zine around for almost a year, and that's just ridiculous! So, for the past ten months or so I've been writing.

A long history of affirmative action-for whites. Many middle-class white people, especially those of us from the suburbs, like to think that we got to where we are today by virtue of our merit-hard work, intelligence, pluck, and maybe a little luck. And while we may be sympathetic to the plight of others, we close down when we hear the words "affirmative action" or "racial preferences." We worked hard, we made it on our own, the thinking goes, why don't 'they'? After all,...

The apocalypse is not happening in the future, it is happening now. It is not the result of our personal sins and it is not the "collective responsibility of humanity". Climate change (or God, or whatever) will not bring about the apocalypse. The apocalypse began with the advent of our current form of life based on industrial production. It is easy to assume that there is no alternative to this form of life, that the way we live in this present moment is simply a reflection of the way...

John Arthur Andrews is probably the most important of the group which came together in the Melbourne Anarchist Club. He certainly has the best chance of being judged as such by literary people, since he has left more material (a lot of it unpublished or published under pseudonyms) than any of the others. His was a wide-ranging imagination and he had by far the strongest intellect. He was a gifted theoretician, poet, inventor and historian.

The contemporary traveler is not the traveler of the azure fields of Rimbaud, who ran in the frenzied splashing of the tides, with a mind less obedient then a child's; neither is he the sailor of Baudelaire, the curious explorer who faces Eldorado, the gift that Fate had promised him. He does not resemble the decisive wanderer, the nomad of Isabelle Eberhardt who is everywhere at home, alone, poor in needs, away from family, property and a permanent job.

The roots of political correctness
Topic: Political Science
Our history is tragic and our future opaque. We ride a storm of oppression into accelerating change, and we long to curve our path towards hope, towards the joy and justice, the world we know is possible. So we struggle, we organize and agitate, we protest and advocate, and yet the corrosive might of the world globalized into a new apartheid engorges, swallowing our victories and outflanking our defenses. How can we resist such state violence? How can we empower in the midst of such TV-drugged...

Its been a long time since we've talked and it's mostly our fault-this failure to communicate. We're sorry and we'd like to make it up to you. Like a young mother, too occupied by anxiety and stress and such dramatic change, we've troubled our relationship. So much even that our tid bits of wisdom have been lost in the clamor. We haven't been there for you, we've been growing older, trying to support our families and our communities, dealing with physical and mental health issues, recognizing...

I grew up in rural Wisconsin and have been around farm animals all my life. One of those who did not forsake the plough but took up arms in defence of the Russian Revolution, fighting against interventionists, Tsarists, Whites, and Reds, and who linked up with the Makhnovists, survived to tell his story. It is a fascinating account of revolutionary Russia as it really was. This is the second in a series on the history of the now defunct USSR. It will be followed by account of two powerful lies that cost thousands of lives, and others yet to come may include secrets of...

This booklet about the possibilities for creating green, sustainable and self-governing cities in a future social-environmental anarchy is one of a number of related pamphlets concerning specific areas of anarchist theory and practice. By anarchism we understand a future society consisting of self-governing communities anmeshed in the ecological dynamics of the bioregion in which they are located. The idea is not to return to small and isolated villages. Rather, we wish that they federate from...

"You can't blow up a social relationship. The total collapse of this society would provide no guarantee about what replaced it. Unless a majority of people had the ideas and organization sufficient for the creation of an alternative society, we would see the old world reassert itself because it is what people would be used to, what they believed in, what existed unchallenged in their own personalities.

I could spend plenty of time talking about the failures of nonviolence. Instead, it may be useful to talk about its supposed successes. Frequently cited examples are India's struggle for independence from British colonial rule, the U.S. civil rights movement of the 1960's, and the peace movement during the war in Vietnam. Though they have not yet been hailed as a victory, the massive protests in 2003 against the United States' invasion of Iraq also have been applauded by nonviolent activists....

An bilingual introduction to Anarchist Action. Anarchist Action is a forum through wich groups and individuals can act and organize. Each project is organized by an autonomous working group made up of individuals and collectives. We have come together to organize our own forms of resistance based upon anarchist principles. We are a public formation open to other like-minded individuals and groups.

Because of the particularities and peculiarities of American history, race, ethnicity and nationality form complex patterns, divisions and overlays in the texture of American society. First and foremost, America is a colonial-settler society occupying the homelands of numerous indigenous nations. These once sovereign nations have not disappeared, they are just under the boot-heel of the colonial-settler society. The indigenous Americans consitute an oppressed ethnic minority in America and are...

Here in Multigraph Letter we look askance at a lot of things that the modern world seems to regard as automatically true. Particularly where it comes to the current deification of the Computer and the society-wide dismissive attitude toward all other prior machines that the human race has ever used, Your Editor finds he is far indeed from concurring. Therefore this publication's ultimate theme is obsolescence--the sad fact of perfectly good people, tools, and ways of working being cast aside in...

The ideology of nonviolence has come to play a major role in political struggles in the United States of America and, indeed, in nations around the world. Almost every organization seeking radical change in the USA has been targeted by organizers for the nonviolence movement. Organizations like Earth First!, which originally did not subscribe to the ideology of nonviolence, have since then adopted that ideology or at least its set of rules for protest and civil disobedience. Yet nonviolence...
